SUSTAINABLE LIVING CONDITIONS FOR FAMILIES WITH SICK CHILDREN AT MAISON DE L’AVENIR -RECREATIONAL ROOM – COMPLETED
The association L’Avenir supports children with cancer and their families by offering them hospitality in the Maison de l’Avenir, as well as social and psychological support.
Four years ago, The Comgest Foundation contributed to improving the living conditions at the Maison L’Avenir in a sustainable manner (this included undertaking repairs to the home such as the installation of photovoltaic solar panels and a solar water heater as well as fixing the plumbing for a couple of rooms). Two years ago, The Comgest Foundation renewed its support to the Maison de l’Avenir by purchasing a large minibus with 23 seats to help families/children commuting to and from the hospital to Maison de l’Avenir and to reduce their fatigue.
This new project consists of creating a space (70 m²) dedicated to the education and awareness of the children welcomed at the Maison de l’Avenir. In this recreational room, the children and their parents will find different activities such as:
– information meetings to increase parental awareness of the children’s treatment and health in general
– craft workshops led by members of the Association
– a recreational area with some video games
– a space for school activities led by teachers who come 3 times a week.

• Increased parent awareness of childrens’ treatment and health habits in general – each month, there is a teach-in for 15 parents.
• Improved quality of life for children (recreational activities, video games, workshops etc) & continuity of the children’s education. Approximately 250 kids are benefitting from this space.
